ioncube installation

What is the best way to install ioncube.

I have successfully installed in a particular domain, but when moving up the directory, it just did not work.

/var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/

I currently have created an /ioncube/ directory in one of my domains in the httpdocs folder and gotten it to work for now, but will need in other locations as well. I would like to install in only one location.

I have tried to install in the /vhosts/ directory but it didn't work.
